The focus of CEM’s Terrestrial and Aquatic Ecology services is to ensure that as our communities continue to grow and expand, development need not be at the expense of our natural areas, but can exist in reasonable harmony with the environment.
Environmental Services for MPA Dredged Material Containment
The Maryland Port Administration is tasked with keeping the Port of Baltimore’s shipping channels in the Chesapeake Bay dredged, and this requires having adequate dredge placement facilities. In 2007, the Board of Public Works cleared the way for Masonville Cove to become a new dredged material placement site, while also creating a wetland park and new environmental center. This project will transform one of Baltimore Harbor’s most contaminated sites into an area that will benefit wildlife, local residents and the port industry. CEM has been involved with this project since the beginning, helping to test dredge materials, assessing impacts of these materials on the environment, developing a Chesapeake Bay Critical Area planting plan, and designing new wetland mitigation areas.
